Gut Health, the Missing Link in Curing Bacterial Vaginosis | BV Part 3

As you know, I fought a roller coaster of a battle against BV (bacterial vaginosis) over this past year. After trying everything the doctor recommended (oral antibiotics, vaginal antibiotic cream, an internal moisturizer….) the only thing that helped keep it at bay were these prhttp://amyatchley.whoknowsaguy.fitness/2017/01/23/5009/bacterial-vaginosisobiotics. But honestly, that wasn’t enough. Yes, they were working, but if I wasn’t taking them daily, symptoms would creep back until I did again. I had mostly cured BV, but I felt like I could do better still.

What I really needed to do was change my gut.

Our gut really does rule our body. It is the center of our immune system, where we make the bulk of our serotonin (and strongly related to depression, etc.), and where we house an amazing array of bacteria that keep our body running smoothly!

For one reason or another, the probiotics weren’t really helping colonize in my digestive tract. The hope when you take probiotics is that they will start to change your gut environment so the right bacteria begin to flourish naturally, and even after months of taking them, I wasn’t any closer to that goal.

There is, however, more to gut health than just probiotics. Bacteria need the right environment to live and reproduce in, and one of the ways they get that is through the various types of fiber we eat. Some of these are called prebiotics, which are a non-digestible fiber. Sadly, many of us do not get enough of these in our diets these days.

Recently, I started drinking a superfoods shake not only had amazing nutrients in it that I wasn’t getting on a daily basis, but also PREbiotics, more PRObiotics, and other ingredients that actually help improve gut health. While I do try to eat healthy, I know I could do better. Plus, our soil these days is actually depleted of the nutrients it used to have, so our food is actually less nutrient dense — which makes it very hard for us to get the nutrition our bodies crave and need. This shake helps fill that gap. After a few months of drinking it, I suddenly realized I wasn’t taking my other probiotics regularly anymore…or even at all. The only real change I’d made in my diet was this protein shake that was clearly more than just a protein shake! I was excited to be getting my greens, vitamins, etc in a delicious chocolate shake each day — never did I expect it to help my bacterial vaginosis, but clearly it was!

If you’d like to improve your energy levels, reduce inflammation, and best of all, improve that gut health of yours and cure BV for good, I highly recommend checking this shake out. It’s a huge piece of the puzzle of for beating bacterial vaginosis!
